We need your help in getting the U.S. Government involved in securing Richard's release!

The Mexican Government does things that The US allows to happen. There have been incidents where Mexican nationals have been armed, but were not arrested. It is time the US put it's pants on and deal on an equal basis with the Mexican government.

There are so many sign along the highway to Mexico on 10 west about bring guns into Mexico. There are many places to turn around before you go into Mexico. What, just because he's in the Army he thinks he doesn't have to obey the law. If it was anyone else they would be where he is now. So if he like anyone else is going to disobey the law he'll should do the time.

I am a Sgt in the US ARMY and I believe he should stay in jail. There is know way in hell he made a mistake and went into Mexico by accident, there are too many signs. I have seen many Soldiers get busted in Mexico for drugs and guns, so what makes this soldier any diffrent, let him serve his time over there and then let him get hit with UCMJ actions, I have no pitty for soldiers that do dumb shit. LET HIM SERVE HIS TIME

First of all if you've seen that way into mexico, once you pass a certain point there is no way to turn around you have no choice but to keep going! When you are in an unfamiliar place it's easy to get confused. Secondly people are leaving comments that don't even have all the facts. Selling firearms in Mexico? You don't even know this person!! Assuptions is all you're going off of!!!

I am surprized that the U. S. has not helped Richard Medina faster than this. The U. S. has a responsibilty to do whatever they can to help their citizens, and since Medina is a member of the U. S. Army they have even more of a responsibilty. Plus, the whole thing was an accident. He just took a wrong turn, he even show them his Army I. D. to let them know he suppost to have them.

ARE YOU SERIOUS JORDAN, JUST BECOUSE YOUR IN THE ARMY DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE WEAPONS, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN JAIL FOR TRYING TO GET ONTO FORT BLISS, WITH THEM WEAPONS,,, YOU PEOPLE ARE FUCKIN DUMB, WE HAVE US PEOPLE IN JAIL ALL AROUND THE WORLD FOR DOING THE SAME DUMB SHIT HE DID, AND YALL ARE NOT MAKING A BIG DILL OVER THEM, HE FUCKED UP, LET HIM SERVE HIS TIME

I am from El Paso and know the area extremely well. It is very easy for someone unfamiliar with the area to make the mistake of entering Mexico. The signs warning about carrying weapons into Juarez are few and far between and can easily be missed by passing motorists. Many have made the same mistake in the past. Those bad mouthing Richard are most likely also unfamiliar with the area around the Chamizal port of entry. There is no way to turn around once you have past Paisano drive. The person who gave Richard directions gave him the directions for parking at the Downtown port of entry where parking is available on the American side of the border. America needs to stand up for this soldier. Gather your cahunas and friends and make some noise America. Richard needs your support!!!

Speaking from experience your apporach to this situtation is wrong. Getting the US government involved will only enrage the Mexican authorities and cause them to not negotiate. I was held at the PGR headquarters when I made a similar mistake back in 2003. I was returning from a hunting trip and forgot to unload my rifle. I was detained but not sent to Cereso. I was kept at the PGR headquarters for 24hrs until I could raise the $10,000.00 bribe I had to pay to get out. If I had envovled the US authorities I would have gone straight to the Cereso and allow Mexican Juris Prudance to prevail. Which normally takes 3 to 6 years. If you want to get your buddy out talk to the person in charge and ask them what it will take to get him out fast. Then turn this website into a fundraiser and raise the necessary funds to get him the hell out of there. The US Government will explore dipolamtic solutions but the bottom line is money. WE have it and they want it.

I am a friend of Richard's and so have been in his home when he had the weapons he was caught with. He bought these weapons at least two years ago, way before getting his orders to leave Fort Hood, and well before serving in Iraq. The weapons are registered in his name (which is why the charges for intending to sell the firearms were dropped). The knives found were also personal and because he was moving overseas for a year, I imagine his intent was to hand the weapons over to his mother for safe keeping. None of the weapons found with Richard were used for military purposes, they were his own.
Richard likes international food. He is a health conscious person, who enjoys good food and would have no hesitation in going across the border for breakfast.
As a soldier in the U.S military, he is responsible for thousands of dollars worth of equipment. It's a pity that his own peers (Sgts in the military), can not support their fellow soldiers and give them the benefit of the doubt in this case. How sad it is to see that that a Sgt in the military also uses such disgusting language and insists on calling others 'dumb'!

This kid did nothing wrong! He doesn't speak Spanish how could he be selling arms. Let's use some common sense! OH I FORGOT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT, MY BAD! NO SENSE!

Richard is not the type of person who would sell guns to cartel.... He is the type of person who fought for all of your rights....Richard made a mistake an understandable one..... so all of you who want to talk bad about him and dont know anything about him ......this is all you need to know your freedom is because of him...... i know Richard personally .I am his cousin. His family sopports him 100% . We will pray everyday for his safe return home. We love you Richie

I believe that he honestly made a mistake. Yes, and it upsets me to read from a sgt that he does not trust his own! How dare you even call yourself a sgt! What happened to the saying "never leave a soldier behind?" Plus if his intension was to do harm why did he tell border officials that he wanted to turn around and was honest that he had weapons??? Duh, that says it all, right? He is innocent and the government needs to hurry and step up to the plate. He is a soldier and has risked his life for all of us and deserves better than this.

Mexico is not a country that plays on a level playing field. Carry one bullet into Mexico and get 7 years. Mistake or not. Mexico wants it all, jobs, amnesty for illegals, our money to educate their people (even if US citizens don't get the benefits). It's time to boycott going to Juarez to comsume. It's time to protest for our rights.

Anonymous said...

I live in Las Cruces, NM... about 20 minutes from El Paso Tx and Juarez... when ever we travel downtown, I'm very careful on which streets I turn on, because you can end up in Juarez before you know it. They now require Passports to return, so we're very careful not to turn on the wrong street in El Paso. I see how very possible it is for a non-local to accidently end up in Mexico.

Release of Spc Medina is the least that Mexico owes the U.S. for all the years of pandering to Mexico in trying to be a good neighbor. Detaining Spc Medina is like a slap on the face and I'm tired of turning the other cheek or turning a blind eye to the crap the Mexican government is always shoveling. I live in a border city so I know some of the pandering that is done all the time. Innocent travelers' get lost everyday are we going to them to be pu in jail, too? Where the Heck is that mumbling and bumbling Bush on this issue. Let this be one time he does something right and get involved RIGHT NOW!

Anonymous said...

I would like him to be released.
He is too young to be a lot of years in prison. What if he is saying the truth?

Anonymous said...

What's the difference? His paying for a mistake. The mexican's for mistakes lose their VISA LAZER, and they can't have another one again. The customs are so boor, don't accept excuses. The corruption is every where, or what the drugs in the USA are easy to cross and the must of your people don't use it.Just you see the backyard but doesn't look your front.

Anonymous said...

i have drive to mexico several times, and you can see tha warning signs all the way to the cordova bridge, and just about 50 ft before you enter the port from US to Mexico there's a U turn so you can go back. this guy fucked up and will not be the first or the last, not just because he's a soldier he must have guns with him at all times. so he must take it as a man.

Anonymous said...

The issue now is not whether he wanted to sell them or not, he needs to be in jail because he broke the law. All the people that are making excuses on the signs, go complaint to the US governement, the signs are in the US side...duh

Dustin said...

I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. I saw the video of someone testing out the drive & I could easily see someone getting stuck in a situation where they could not turn around in that section of the Highway. The fact that all he wanted to do was find a place to turn around has not been disputed by the Mexican authorities. See my blog entry on the topic for more details of how I feel about this subject.

It is ridiculous to even have a ban on personal weapons in Mexico or anyplace else for that matter - because of the ban only the Military, Police, & the Criminals are armed in Mexico. Everyone else there including tourists are disarmed victims waiting to happen.

Anonymous said...

I live in the Juarez/El Paso area, and those people that say there aren't any signs, my guess is they are not familiar with the cities. There are(if my memory doesn't fails) 3 U-turns before reaching the point where the soldier was detained. Also you have to consider that we are not talking about a small weapon, this guy had an arsenal, he had several rifles, ammunition, small guns and more. There are big signs saying "You are now entering Mexico" and a big NO GUNS sign, he knew what he was doing.
Please don't try to make this a political situation about immigration and economics and more, this is just a simple matter of breaking the law.

Anonymous said...

Whaaaat?!?!? he does not speak spanish?!? have you seen his last name and appearance?

Come on, this guy was bringing these guns because he wanted something out of them.

And do not say that only Mexico has a corrupt government, because American government is just as much or even worse, or how do you think that trucks fully loaded of drugs go across the border to the USA? by land just by paying bribes to everybody in the USA government

I hope this guy roths in the jail in Juarez, he knew what he was doing and hopefully, he can read to understand that "entry of firearms into Mexico is forbiden" posted all over I-10 and before reaching the international bridges

Anonymous said...

He knew what he was doing, there are a bunch of signs before you reach the border of not to take guns to Juarez. the mexican government is just doing the right thing. I don’t know if he wanted to get some money for those guns. But the facts is that cartel buy the guns in U.S. and if US Government want to help mexican government fighting drugs cartel, they have to avoid US citizens to bring guns to Mexico on purpose or mistake. There are warning signs all the way to the Cordova bridge, and just about 50 ft before you enter the port from US to Mexico there are at least 2 U turns so you can go back. I go to Juarez daily so I know about it.

Anonymous said...

You have to obey the law no matter what, ignorance does not exclude anyone to follow the rules, and let me tell you why.

About 10 years ago, I made the terrible mistake to cross the border (to the US)with some avocados, and the Customs officer gave me a fine of several amount of US dollars, and destroy my visa, telling me that I could not cross the border in 10 years!!!, and just because of a fruit!!!... now, imagine if I have tried to cross a weapon!!!

Please, do not play dumb, and say that this man is a saint.

Anonymous said...

I live in ELP and have been over to Mexico a few times...each time I'm struck by how quickly one ends up in Mexico...especially given a lack of familiarity with the area. Good luck!!!!

Anonymous said...

I have never been to Mexico and so cannot comment about the signs. However, for those making posts about the 'arsenal' of weapons in Richard's car- GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! Richard had two firearms, one was an AR-15 the other was a hand gun. He also had two knives and a set of steak knives. All weapons were for personal (not military use), and all were REGISTERED in his name. The only thing not registered to Richard were the steak knives (do you have yours registered?). The charges of intent to sell the weapons were DROPPED after the Mexican Government found that the weapons were LEGAL in the U.S and registered to Richard. I find it highly ironic that many of the people posting comments about Richard selling weapons and breaking the law, live on the U.S side of the border and live in a place where access to these weapons is not prohibited!
One final thought- "Let he who hast not sinned cast the first stone"- and for those who saw all of the signs going into Mexico, I'd say that you are very fortunate to know the area so well- perhaps you should stick to where you live because Heaven forbid you go out of town, take a wrong turn- this could be YOU!

what would happen if I or any mexican people by "mistake" tries to cross with a gun to the US? you will be accused of all the charges that they can put into you, at least you will be called TERRORIST, so if he didnt know what he was doing, or where he was going to, can you imagine his performance at the field? I'm from Juarez, and if for any reason you bring a POTATOE to the bridge, you can be fined up to a 1000 dollars if the customs agent doesn't like you or he is not in a good mood, and the funny thing is that the signs that prohibit the entrance of certain products such as a potatoe are 20 feet before the inspection booth, and after the first sign that prohibit the entrance of weapons into Mexico are at least three exits to avoid to go into Mexico, so let him do his time and everybody happy...

The U.S. Army is trained to NOT cross weapons, to not be stupid. He was going to get money in exchange for those weapons. Come on people! I ask God for the day that people start reading more and spending less time in line at McDonalds.

correctionto the previous post:

"The Mexican goverment is NOT making an statement, they are just taking in place the LAW. Read before you post something."

Anonymous said...

It is not possible for the American soldier passed without realizing the American and Mexican warning signs on the prohibition of entering Mexico with weapons, there are also at least two returns before reaching the posts mexicans.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it ironic that the Mexican government decides to impose its "LAWS" when convenient? Where was the LAW when the cartels were bribing federal and local police to smuggle their drugs and weapons? The same agents that arrested Richard Medina are the same ones who look the other way when offered MONEY! Where is their law when its own citizens are starving and have no voice? How strange it is to enforce the law with DISCRETION.

Anonymous said...

All these comments are saying the truth. If you are part of his family I'm sorry for whats happening to him and all of you, all I can fell is sympathy for all of you. But, as an American citizen we all know better that when entering a different country you have to follow their laws. Regardless!!!!! It does not provide him any type of immunity just because he fought in Irak.

Anonymous said...

Why don't all the Mexicans on this site giving their opinions do the same to their government for better education and better jobs? I keep forgetting, they have no rights and will be locked away for years because freedom of speech is not tolerated. Whether Richard saw the signs or not he ended up in Mexico without wanting to cross over. So he did take a wrong turn and in wanting to get back he was stopped and possibly extorted, but sent to prison because he didn't have the $$$. Not every American has loads of $$$

Anonymous said...

Taking weapons from USA into Mexico is a fed offence!!!! and we have the federal attention right now on this state because of the drug dealers USA attracts because of their market... SO THE PROBLEM IS IN U.S.A. ....SOLVE IT instead of saying things about mexico

Anonymous said...

We know the purpose of this site, the deal is that overall the feeling is that he should be put in jail as he broke the law. The " I didn't see the sign" excuse does not count. You cannot make any exceptions to law breakers. How about if you begin forgiving all your criminals based on " I didn't realize what I was doing" excuses. Laws were made to TRY to keep some kind or order. Humanity cannot afford to ignore them. It would be chaos.

How dumb can a person be? He didn't know he was crossing into Mexico? There are lots of sings welcoming you to Mexico, there's a huge Mexican flag, you have to go through U.S. Customs before crossing into Mexico so don't give us that shit that he didn't know. By the way, I have a buddy in a U.S. prison charged with drug smuggling, he didn't know he was crossing into the states. Any help getting him out. We can alway say he's dumb and didn't know he was going into the U.S.

Its disappointing to see that people have nothing better to do with their lives than rag on a man they dont even know..how can you speak of someone that you dont have any idea of what that person is like to make such bitter judgements???you were not there at the time this event occured...so how do you know what really happened???you dont!!!Be respectful of those related to this man and those who support him. This blog was meant to be a support system for Richard, not for clueless minds to be exposed in writting!!!Secondly, do not let your stereotypical minds get the best of you and think just because you look Mexican means you can speak and understand the language or know the area of Mexico! No one here is in any position to say what happened or didnt happen.

i know richard personally hes my brothers best friend he screwed up unintentionally he had no intentions of doung any thing illegall hes a soldier fighting for our freedom and and every 1 seems to be forgetting that hes one of ours and right now hes in hell he would have never sold a registered gun or tried to cross the border armed that way so lets stop trying to crusify him and help him out we need to find out how much money the mexican government needs to let him go and raise it fast give them 20000 and hell be out in no time

It is a felony to enter Mexico illegally, although is it not when you enter the USA. We should stop all foreign aid to Mexico, deport all illegals, and shoot anyone who crosses the border illegal with fine American Made Weapons, until Richard is released.

YOU UNPATRIOTIC SLOBS!!!
I am a SGT OF MARINES and highly support George's cause!! The Mexican Government being as corrupt and unlawabiding as they come stands in no position to hold one of our own servicemembers in jail without due process and negotiation with our government. Ive been to mexico plenty of times and have been harrassed for no apparent reason by their authorities trying to make a quick buck out of a passing tourist. I dont understand how you all could sit there and judge Richard regardless of the circumstance. Remember he is first and foremost an AMERICAN! Remember that you COMMUNIST pukes!

Well said Terry, this is a website to help out Richard not trash him! Richard made a mistake and aren't we all human and make mistakes? No one is perfect in this world so keep your unwanted negative opinions to yourself! Richard and his mother are going thru enough right now, they don't need any of your criticism. Richard is a good person with no intent on doing anything illegal. Do you think he would of told the mexican police that he had weapons if he was up to no good? Duh!!! And as for all those knives they say Richard had, well those were steak knives he bought to cut meat for his mother's birthday party he had planned to have for her which was cancelled. Richard was raised to be a fine young man by his mother and he has never disrespected me or his family. I know this because Richard is my nephew so please stop trashing him! Remember, some day this could be you in a similar situation and you would want the support of your fellow Americans! All Richard wants to do is get out of Mexico so he can come see his mom before he goes to his next assignment to go fight for us the American people. So with this, WE ASK THE MEXICAN GOV'T TO RELEASE RICHARD, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

I am a Proud American and truly love this country we live in. The freedoms we enjoy (like being able to post our thoughts here) have been earned by such selfless young americans in our armed forces like Richard. For me, the issue here is not that Mr. Medina is guilty or innocent... (however i have been taught that we are innocent until PROVEN guilty)....but that he is an AMERICAN!!!!! Not just an American but and American Serviceman. He has earned, at the very least, the right to be respected and honored until we learn the outcome. And that outcome should be determined by his PEERS, in America by other American Servicemen. I will have Richard in my thoughts and will pray that even if he did make a mistake(and MISTAKE is truly what it sounds like to me) that the good he has done and will continue to do will outweigh such a mistake. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND YOU TOO RICHARD!!!!

I am a Mexican Computer Specialist that was invited to work in El Paso because there are no enough qualified people there.

While most people is great, every once in a while I have to stand stupid gringos for one reason or another, (but that is expected everywhere). The ugly thing here is that they usually are customs people, and they have a lot of power and abuse of that constantly.

Have you heard the expression "ugly american"?, have you heard "the face of our nation"?

I have been accused without prof of smuggling radioactive material, drugs and arms, I was not handcuffed. Until after it was clear I had none of the above, then I was handcuffed. I was never considered innocent, they let me go not because they didn't have any excuse to keep me Guantanamo style.

I support arms bearing, I like the gringoland, but so much xenophobia is not good anywhere.

"We are just doing or job preventing drugs and terrorists from entering", well you are not doing a good job at that, but you are at making the whole world hate gringoland.

Cry, cry all you want, drug consumers!!!! He broke the law, he is going to stay in jail, if he really was not an arms dealer, he won't stay much.
There are TWO u turns after the Paisano exit. There is not such opportunity with the gringos, either he was intoxicated or he is really stupid.
It is not a felony to enter Mexico, is only a minor administartive penalty, but the arms, they are federal ofence. And it is not because he is gringo, is because we has stupid enough to use bring a weapon that is classified "military purpose only". It is clear he is guilty, of that particular charge, may not be of the arms dealer charge, but he is guilty. At least he is not being treated like hundreds including gringo citizens are treated every day just for crossing into the US.

If I were to cross into the US with an AK-47 in my car, would I be arrested?Of course!! Would people jump up and complain about me being arrested for that?NO!!! If I break the law I will go to jail!!He broke the law and now has to pay. There are HUGE signs with pictures of guns saying "ILLEGAL TO TAKE FIREARMS INTO MEXICO"and there are several U Turns,so don't try to make him a hero just because he was in Irak,my cousin just came back from there and he knows better than to bring a gun into Mexico!!

In my point of view I think he should be released.. I go visit my ex husband over to the cereso and the people over there treat him nice but what the government of Mexico wants is just publicity and MONEY... I have family in Cd juarez but im not against no one but he should be put free. Sometimes the Lines of that exit is a long line with out no one knowing where its taking you we are no one to judge him and only the PRESIDENT can help him and with everyones support...

Okay - one more time... for those who don't read...Richard was not arrested with a weapon used for military purposes only, he was arrested with two weapons that were for PERSONAL use and were REGISTERED in his name.
By the way- since when did this become a racial issue? Richard is an innocent man. I'm sorry that some cannot support and respect him because of his military service, but how about supporting him and respecting him as a human being?
How easy it is to judge another person without walking a mile in their shoes...I never seen such unforgiving people! Get some integrity and stop 'casting the first stone.'

We need to support our members of the Military. What I can't understand is why it is taking so long for the US to step in and try to get this soldier back on the US soil! Here is a young man, that made a wrong turn, told the people at the border that he had the weapons, and just made a wrong turn. Then he is arrested. With that they don't believe him, even after others have stepped up and verified his statements.

We, your friends in Australia, are thinking of you every day Richard.

I think that he could not be lost, im not gonna pass judgement on anyone, but i believe that the law is the law , and he clearly BROKE IT, and thats it, if a mexican person comes into the U.S. with a firearm and ammo and knifes and gets stopped , do you honestly think that if he says , "ooopps im sorry, im lost" do you think that helps at all?

I mean its sad for him and his family, but you cannot go around with firearms in the trunk and not knowing what youre doing or going, there many places to stop before crossing , there is no way he didnt knew he was in Mexico , its just stupid that someone believes that, please come on, too many signs to have excuses, no one can tavel from country to country with a firearm, unless they have a permit, i mean hes a soldier for gods sake.

It may not be intentional, but he broke the law anyway. And with military use only weapons (by Mexican law) which is one of the biggest offenses.

There is no chance he didn't say the yard tall letters saying Bienvenido a Mexico, Welcome to Mexico. And even then there is one more u-turn before getting to the revision post.

He deserves all the humane treatment everyone else deserves (even if the US does not grant that same treatment). I hope he has a not too hard time in jail, hopefully not to long time either.

If he as a trained soldier doesn't saw the signs of "no guns aloud", or can't find a "u" turn, he deserves to be in jail.

In fact, it is safer for him to stay there than in Irak where are no danger signs.

Regards.

I want to know what is happening with Richard, he has been in prison for a month now and I can find no information as to where his case stands at the present time. For goodness sake, free the man -------- he has been punished enough for his errors! Please tell us what is happening with him and tell him we are still thinking of him every day as we search the headlines for news of his release.
From his friends in Australia.

KSEE 24 News is really on top of this story.

Everytime there is an update they cover it.

Preston Phillips is the one covering the story there. I would think if you have any questions, you could probably just e-mail him.

I would like to Thank George Alesna for his website Release Richard.com, T-shirt Tank.com and all of you who supported my nephew thru his ordeal. For those who didn't support him and were quick to judge Richard, I hope that you don't ever make a mistake where you would want the support from your fellow Anericans. Our prayers were answered and now Richard can continue his journey as an American Soldier and fight for our country. Special Thanks to Preston Phillips from KSEE 24 News in Fresno for believing in Richard and all your news coverage, and all the phone calls you made to help out Richard. Also, to all the Mexican Consulates and American gov't. and to the Mexican Magistrate for believing Richard and clearing him from this nightmare. God Bless You All!!!
